This position is located in Code 1233, Server Support Branch, of Code 1230, the Information Resource Management Division, Code 1200, the Business and Strategic Planning Office, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine. The purpose of this position is to serve command customers on issued related to Information Technology (IT) services and to act as liaison between command customers and any contracted IT provider in matters pertaining to the planning and delivery of customer support IT services.
The duties and responsibilities at the GS-07 and GS-09 levels are essentially the same as those at the full performance level except the incumbent is under closer supervision and receives more detailed instructions. The incumbent will become sufficiently familiar with the programs of the organization and their relationships with other organizations to satisfactorily perform the full range of duties of the position. This position has known promotion potential to GS-12.

Assisting in performing and developing application management program plans, policies, and standards.
Assisting in managing the installation and integration of systems fixes, updates, and enhancements; and/or ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of systems administration.
Assisting in developing, implementing, and interpreting metrics for the evaluation of IT effectiveness and efficiency.
Assisting with managing and coordinating UNIX based systems, workstations, mini-computers, and network-attached storage (NAS)/storage area networks (SAN) storage systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE for GS-07 : In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:
Assisting in developing IT goals.
Assisting in configuring UNIX systems.
Assisting in maintaining administrative requirements of UNIX operating requirements.
Assisting in system design and life cycle management procedures including feasibility studies, long range plan development, etc.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE for GS-07 : Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement .
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE for GS-09 : Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below as defined:

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.
The selectee must attain and maintain one of the recognized Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level III Professional certifications as required by DoD 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program, within six months of employment.
